Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer that develops in the sympathetic nervous system, and is the cancer most often found in infants.  The disease forms as solid tumors — lumps or masses — in the adrenal glands, abdomen, neck, chest, or pelvis. The tumors can also spread to other parts of the body such as the bones and bone marrow. There are about 800 new cases of neuroblastoma each year in the United States. The average age of children when they are diagnosed is about 1 to 2 years. In rare cases, neuroblastoma is detected by ultrasound even before birth.  Neuroblastoma develops from nerve cells in the fetus called neuroblasts. Usually, as a fetus matures and after birth, the neuroblasts develop normally. Sometimes they become cancerous, causing neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma has one of the lowest survival rates of all childhood cancers, with only 67% of patients surviving to five years.

To help raise awareness, Solving Kids' Cancer is distributing gold shoelaces as part of their "Lace Up For Kids" social media campaign. They are asking all supporters to swap out their shoelaces to gold in support of kids fighting cancer, and post an image of their participation on social media to raise awareness. 

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and is globally represented by the color gold. To help raise awareness, Solving Kids' Cancer distributes thousands of gold shoelaces as part of the "Lace Up For Kids" campaign. Supporters across the globe exchange their shoelaces for gold ones in support of kids fighting cancer and the need for childhood cancer research.
